Dog Treats

Mike's
Magic Morsels came about primarily because my financial situation didn't allow
me to stock up on store bought treats for my best friend "Lexus" So, I
poked around the internet looking for recipes for do it yourself treats.
Honestly you could make your own if you have a significant time
investment.
Back in the mid to late70s I baked my own bread so it didn't take long to
get the hang of kneading dough. Of course I couldn't afford even a cheap dog
biscuit cutter so Mikes Magic Morsels started out looking like human cookies and
still do.
The first thing I discovered about making homemade treats for Lexus was that this is a lot of work. I don't have a bread mixer, I mix and knead everything and cut it by hand so far. I made one heck of a mess. I discovered that it took a long time to bake them properly and even longer overnight to get them hard. After my second batch of about 500 dog cookies, I was wore out but learning.
I love my dog and like the fact that she isn't getting a lot of extra gunk in
her snacks, so it was worth the effort. Ours are
made with home cooked meat broths using no added salt or other spices.
Your best 4 legged friend will love these. Even some of my two legged
friends have tried them. Their verdict: "Could use some salt". One of my
friends sons tried a couple and said they needed some spices.
They look like human cookies but are intended for pet consumption.
Our morsels are made with a variety of flours, corn meal, homemade meat and
doggie edible vegetable broths. I love my dog and she loves the homemade taste
of Mike's Magic Morsels. Currently only the Cheesy Chicken, Lamb & Rice
and Inland Surf & Turf varieties are available. We will shortly (Lexus and I) restock Beefy/Potato
and our
Lamb and Rice. We use egg wash on top of some as well.
Keep out of reach of young children and adults under the influence!. They do look appetizing.
Because of finances again, I have not yet converted to organic ingredients but that is the short term goal.
I gave some to an acquaintance to give to his dog. He told me his dog always eats snacks right out of his hand. He called me later and told me that she actually took my snacks to her special place to enjoy them.
